My ribs were still not fully healed, but my experience with the Open had me pretty jazzed. i wanted to get into class and up my game a bit – work harder and actually start measuring results. Until the Open, I didn’t really embrace the idea of measurement – I can’t say there was a single reason for that, it just struck me as outside of what I wanted to do. I wasn’t in it to compete, I just wanted to be in overall better health and be fit enough to not feel 40.
So I started to record some results. Not all of them – but the ones I felt would be repeatable more often than not. I started with simple things like my 5 rep max clean and jerk, my one rep max deadlift, 500m row, and I did Karen for the first time – that last one was awful. I gave myself at least a couple of benchmarks to revisit down the line and even within a one month period saw some small progression in a few of them. I was also now going to class 5 times a week.
